How To Uninstall libdb5.3 On Debian 8

To uninstall libdb5.3 just follow these instructions.

Uninstall just libdb5.3

Berkeley v5.3 Database Libraries [runtime]Debian 8.0libs5.3.28-9
sudo apt-get remove libdb5.3

This will remove just the libdb5.3 package itself.

Uninstall libdb5.3 and its dependencies

sudo apt-get remove --auto-remove libdb5.3

This will remove the libdb5.3 package and any other dependant packages which are no longer needed.

Purging your config/data too

If you also want to delete your local/config files for libdb5.3 then this will work.

 Caution! Purged config/data can not be restored by reinstalling the package.
sudo apt-get purge libdb5.3

Or similarly, like this libdb5.3

sudo apt-get purge --auto-remove libdb5.3
