How To Uninstall mcrypt On Debian 8

To uninstall mcrypt just follow these instructions.

Uninstall just mcrypt

Replacement for old unix crypt(1)Debian 8.0utils2.6.8-1.3
sudo apt-get remove mcrypt

This will remove just the mcrypt package itself.

Uninstall mcrypt and its dependencies

sudo apt-get remove --auto-remove mcrypt

This will remove the mcrypt package and any other dependant packages which are no longer needed.

Purging your config/data too

If you also want to delete your local/config files for mcrypt then this will work.

 Caution! Purged config/data can not be restored by reinstalling the package.
sudo apt-get purge mcrypt

Or similarly, like this mcrypt

sudo apt-get purge --auto-remove mcrypt
