How To Uninstall mgetty On Debian 8

To uninstall mgetty just follow these instructions.

Uninstall just mgetty

Smart Modem getty replacementDebian 8.0comm1.1.36-2.1
sudo apt-get remove mgetty

This will remove just the mgetty package itself.

Uninstall mgetty and its dependencies

sudo apt-get remove --auto-remove mgetty

This will remove the mgetty package and any other dependant packages which are no longer needed.

Purging your config/data too

If you also want to delete your local/config files for mgetty then this will work.

 Caution! Purged config/data can not be restored by reinstalling the package.
sudo apt-get purge mgetty

Or similarly, like this mgetty

sudo apt-get purge --auto-remove mgetty
