How To Uninstall mplayer2 On Debian 8

To uninstall mplayer2 just follow these instructions.

Uninstall just mplayer2

next generation movie player for Unix-like systemsDebian 8.0video2.0-728-g2c378c7-4+b1
sudo apt-get remove mplayer2

This will remove just the mplayer2 package itself.

Uninstall mplayer2 and its dependencies

sudo apt-get remove --auto-remove mplayer2

This will remove the mplayer2 package and any other dependant packages which are no longer needed.

Purging your config/data too

If you also want to delete your local/config files for mplayer2 then this will work.

 Caution! Purged config/data can not be restored by reinstalling the package.
sudo apt-get purge mplayer2

Or similarly, like this mplayer2

sudo apt-get purge --auto-remove mplayer2
