How To Uninstall emacs24 On Debian 9

To uninstall emacs24 just follow these instructions.

Uninstall just emacs24

GNU Emacs editor (with GTK+ GUI support)Debian 9.0editors24.5+1-11
sudo apt-get remove emacs24

This will remove just the emacs24 package itself.

Uninstall emacs24 and its dependencies

sudo apt-get remove --auto-remove emacs24

This will remove the emacs24 package and any other dependant packages which are no longer needed.

Purging your config/data too

If you also want to delete your local/config files for emacs24 then this will work.

 Caution! Purged config/data can not be restored by reinstalling the package.
sudo apt-get purge emacs24

Or similarly, like this emacs24

sudo apt-get purge --auto-remove emacs24
