sudo apt-get remove libboost-signals1.49-dev

This will remove just the libboost-signals1.49-dev package itself.

Uninstall libboost-signals1.49-dev and its dependencies

sudo apt-get remove --auto-remove libboost-signals1.49-dev

This will remove the libboost-signals1.49-dev package and any other dependant packages which are no longer needed.

Purging your config/data too

If you also want to delete your local/config files for libboost-signals1.49-dev then this will work.

 Caution! Purged config/data can not be restored by reinstalling the package.
sudo apt-get purge libboost-signals1.49-dev
