How To Uninstall tar On Debian 7

To uninstall tar just follow these instructions.

Uninstall just tar

GNU version of the tar archiving utilityDebian 7.0utils1.26+dfsg-0.1
sudo apt-get remove tar

This will remove just the tar package itself.

Uninstall tar and its dependencies

sudo apt-get remove --auto-remove tar

This will remove the tar package and any other dependant packages which are no longer needed.

Purging your config/data too

If you also want to delete your local/config files for tar then this will work.

 Caution! Purged config/data can not be restored by reinstalling the package.
sudo apt-get purge tar

Or similarly, like this tar

sudo apt-get purge --auto-remove tar
