How To Uninstall gedit On Linux Mint 17

To uninstall gedit just follow these instructions.

Uninstall just gedit

sudo apt-get remove gedit

This will remove just the gedit package itself.

Uninstall gedit and its dependencies

sudo apt-get remove --auto-remove gedit

This will remove the gedit package and any other dependant packages which are no longer needed.

Purging your config/data too

If you also want to delete your local/config files for gedit then this will work.

 Caution! Purged config/data can not be restored by reinstalling the package.
sudo apt-get purge gedit

Or similarly, like this gedit

sudo apt-get purge --auto-remove gedit
