How To Uninstall mysql-server-5.5 On Ubuntu 14.04 LTS

To uninstall mysql-server-5.5 just follow these instructions.

Uninstall just mysql-server-5.5

MySQL database server binaries and system database setupUbuntu 14.04 LTSdatabase5.5.35+dfsg-1ubuntu1
sudo apt-get remove mysql-server-5.5

This will remove just the mysql-server-5.5 package itself.

Uninstall mysql-server-5.5 and its dependencies

sudo apt-get remove --auto-remove mysql-server-5.5

This will remove the mysql-server-5.5 package and any other dependant packages which are no longer needed.

Purging your config/data too

If you also want to delete your local/config files for mysql-server-5.5 then this will work.

 Caution! Purged config/data can not be restored by reinstalling the package.
sudo apt-get purge mysql-server-5.5

Or similarly, like this mysql-server-5.5

sudo apt-get purge --auto-remove mysql-server-5.5
