How To Uninstall elasticsearch On Ubuntu 16.10

To uninstall elasticsearch just follow these instructions.

Uninstall just elasticsearch

linuxOpen Source, Distributed, RESTful Search Engineuniverse/web1.7.5-1
sudo apt-get remove elasticsearch

This will remove just the elasticsearch package itself.

Uninstall elasticsearch and its dependencies

sudo apt-get remove --auto-remove elasticsearch

This will remove the elasticsearch package and any other dependant packages which are no longer needed.

Purging your config/data too

If you also want to delete your local/config files for elasticsearch then this will work.

 Caution! Purged config/data can not be restored by reinstalling the package.
sudo apt-get purge elasticsearch

Or similarly, like this elasticsearch

sudo apt-get purge --auto-remove elasticsearch
